Taming obesity among adolescents
T
eenage Obesity is a dangerous and growing problem. But what can you do? Plenty. Turn your concern about the weight of your teenager action.
There is no magic formula for losing weight teens. The key lies in adopting a healthy lifestyle that can last a lifetime.
Start with a heart to heart.
If your teen is overweight, he or she is probably concerned about being overweight, too. Apart from health risks to life, such as blood pressure and diabetes, the social and emotional of excess weight can be devastating for a teenager. Offer support and gentle understanding and a willingness to help your teen to take control problem.
You might say: "I can not change your weight. It is for you. But I can help you make good decisions. "
Weight and body image problems may be particularly difficult for adolescents. When it is the adolescent weight loss, remind your teen that there is no single ideal and perfect body. The right weight for one person may not be the right weight for another.
Rather than talking about "fat" and "light", "encourage your teen to focus on practice behaviors that promote a healthy weight. Your family doctor can help set realistic goals for body mass index and weight according to your teen age, height and general health.
Help your teen to understand that losing weight and keeping it off is a lifelong commitment. Fat Diets May Rob Your adolescent growth, iron, calcium and other essential nutrients. Weight-loss pills and other quick fixes do not address not the root problem. And the effects are often short-lived. Without a permanent change in habits, any weight loss is likely to go back.
Like adults, adolescents need about 60 minutes of physical activity per day. But this does not mean solid 60 minutes at a stretch. Shorter bursts of activity during the day can help reduce calories.
Team sports in schools or programs community are great ways to get active. If you are young is not an athlete or reluctant to participate in certain sports is ok. Encourage him to walk, bike or online game at school, or walk a few laps in the halls before class. When it comes portions, size matters. Encourage your teen to scale back and stop eating when he or she is full. It could simply take a slice pizza or half the dough on the plate to feel full and there is no shame in sharing a meal, ordering a smaller portion or taking leftovers home.

The average 12-ounce soda has 150 calories and 10 teaspoons of sugar. The calories and sugar in fruit juice, specialty coffees and other drinks can add up quickly too. drinking water instead of soda and other May sugary drinks to spare your teen hundreds of calories and the value of sugar a day or more. Allow occasional treats.

Let your teen know he or she is in control and an occasional indulgence is OK. A trend towards better practice is what really matters.
Make it a family affair
Rather than singling out your teen, adopt healthier habits in a family. After all, eating healthier foods and do more Exercise is good for everyone.
Bring the whole family to eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Make sure to set a good example yourself.
Leave junk food at the grocery store. Healthy foods sometimes cost more, but it is a significant investment.
Try new recipes or healthier alternatives to family favorites. Banish food on the couch to curb mindless munching. Plan to outputs active, such as evening walks or weekend visits to a local recreation center.
Being overweight does not inevitably lead a lifetime of low self-esteem. But acceptance is essential. Listen to your teen's concerns. Give your opinion on his or her efforts, skills and achievements. Please understand that your unconditional love is not dependent on weight loss. Help your teen learn healthy ways to express his feelings, like writing in a journal.
If your teen is struggling with low self-esteem or is not able to cope with its weight in a healthy manner, consider a support group, weight control program official or professional counseling. Additional support may give your tools of the youth to counter social pressure, cultivate more positive self-esteem and take control of their weight. The benefits will last a life.
