I get excited every year when they announced the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees mainly because I think this year could well be the year KISS who gets in. But alas I am a bit like a teenage boy in the back seat of a car, I get all excited but have no relief. Anyway this year is a great year simply because Metallica is up and not only they will be enshrined for all to see, but they put Jason Newstead and Cliff Burton as well.
Now, why I call it the Hall of Shame because we lack a key ingredient in the mix of Metallica. Megadeth Dave Mustaine! Dave May never recorded an album of Metallica, but he wrote many credits in the songs that Metallica is still alive. Not only that, but when they decided to leave Dave drunk ass on the edge of the road they went looking for a guitarist who can play like Dave. For me it is sufficient to say that Mustaine made / helped Metallica receive these honors.
This is not the first time this has happened either. Black Sabbath was inducted in 2006, with Ozzy. It's great and they opened the way for everyone, but what about Dio? Their version of Sabbath sold as many albums as the original. Dio is a legend and did not there on that day is a travesty. They leave the band to decide who enters and who does not make sense to me. We know the stakes and tape to hold rancor, why let them deny someone something that big when they can fight for a roadie.
I do not know where it stops or starts, if Kiss infiltrates should be with them. Eric Carr, Bruce Kulick, Vinnie Vincent, Tommy Thayer, Eric Singer? All these guys helped pave the way for KISS and cons popular demand, I think Paul and Gene to include them. You know, if it ever happens.
After this Rant, I think I'll go with Hall of Shame simply because its an unfair system based on the band wants and commercial success. Mustaine and Dio may never see the room, simply because it take their niche and decided to treat their fans with the respect we deserve.
