Why you need to watch "Freaks and Geeks"
You see a television set in High School, and you will be forgiven to think that his core audience are people who are actually in high school. But if the story takes place in the eighties, twenty years before the present generation? Could it really be possible for a show to actually be directed towards adults?
Well with Freaks and Geeks, it could well be one. Its main objective is the struggle and the lives of outcasts of society in the early four to twenty with children who really want high school students. Now, it might be the place (since I'm Ol 'Blighty) but there is a certain limit emissions on adolescents whose parents rich doing several things at once in which the last new show finally falls on the more completely commonplace. That's what happened with 90210 – where he feels like The OC and Gossip Girl has done everything before. Even the original Beverly Hills is earlier. My So-Called Life is apparently a little more realistic, but I have yet to watch again. Freaks and Geeks seems to depict a more realistic picture of the high school that I really seen only briefly in cons Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars before the deduction of the gender quota of these shows. What is interesting is that this was before the 1999-2000 season of 90210 and its ilk, but running along Dawson Creek and Popular. While the first was a huge showcase of poor quality and succeeded unrealistic melodramatic it was a hit tongue-in-cheek in adolescence shows, watch it now, after the modern wave just feels like a breath of fresh air.
It no rich parents, no major events or dance the children to organize, no flight of fancy or something like them, it's just the children and problems. There are no stories that cross the high drama series, mainly characters of low life week A and B stories focus on the brother / sister team of Lindsey and Sam Weir. Lindsey (Linda Cardellini, ER and Scooby Doo) is a year old young woman of 17 mathletes old who decides to hang out with 'Freaks' Daniel (James Franco, Spider-Man and Pineapple Express), Kim (Busy Phillips) and Nick (Jason Siegel, How I Met Your Mother). Then 14 years old Sam (John Francis Daley, waiting and bones) must deal with bullies and being chosen last for sports with Neil friends (Sat Levinne) and Havershuck Bill (Martin Starr). Other characters are the parents Weir and some teachers who try to steal the screen time, and it will succeed only if it was not for the young cast.
The two main characters find themselves central to the two plots are linked thematically in each episode, and sometimes converge, but never quite follow on the next episode, except for certain occasions. Episodes Not all the important messages or morals that run to the end, and there is a (grateful) the lack of exaggerated melodrama and maturity in the narrative that also acts as proof that this is not entirely for teenagers. But among all the characters realistic and down-to-earth littering the show, it just feels easier to relate to what happens instead of the ridiculous high-lifers.
In terms of episodes, there is no real stand-out, because they all stand out. There are no real clunkers of ideas (especially because there only eighteen episodes) and episodes all feel strong and the characters. Geeks usually steal the episodes but with some highlights including Sat and joint struggles against the shower after gym and last to be taken for baseball. There is usually always something brilliant in every episode.
No, the real stand out here, which highlights the iconic status of the spectacle are the characters. Sam has been noted in some American magazines like television idea son, but the stand-out for geeks is Bill. The skinny geek stereotype is immediately lovable, receives sympathy instantaneously and that the series unfolds and you begin to learn to know and it is easy to get involved with the characters. Episode where he finds his gym teacher is dating his mother is probably the highest point, managing to get a funny and tragic character to life even more. Among the phenomena Daniel strikes rebel-without-a path and departure, mainly because you can say that James Franco is just having fun with it happens to do both. Where is the manipulation adults trying to be a rocker, his character is another iconic image you will not to tremble.
When you reach the end of the series – you realize that you've come to know these characters, and then it hits sure there is nothing. With many shows you get a tinge of sadness – but with characters as flesh and nice like that – you suddenly lost several of his friends. Maybe the show is regarded as that on the pond because of its short and the show has never been chance to get stale. But you can not help but wonder to see how Sam and Lindsey and their friends grow, and how they complete their studies secondary. Again, the show would lose something if the phenomena of diploma and got a job while Lindsey went to college? We never know …
It's fun to see actors and actresses who have moved on nearly nine / ten years if. Shia Labeouf appears a mascot, Ben Stiller a Secret Service agent, Lizzy Caplan as a dancer disco, Samaire Armstrong as a fan Grateful Dead, the privileged Joanna Garcia as a leader, and key players. Daley is now bone in ER Cardellini, Seth Rogan goes from being Seth Rogan Seth Rogan to be later and Jason Siegel How I Met Your Mother.
It was not a statement of the Region 2 (yet), but it is something that should be known. If you ever get a chance to watch it, it does. You will not be disappointed.
